Associates - Michael Petty, III
Mike has over thirty years of financial and strategic management experience with both publicly-traded and privately-owned companies, ranging in size from start-up to three billion dollars in revenue. He has expertise in the areas of shareholder value creation, strategic planning and corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, controllership, treasury, shareholder relations, and executive information and decision making functions.

In his capacity as a McGurer & Associates partner, Mike helps senior leaders to gain a deeper understanding of corporate finance and the interaction between finance, accounting, operations, sales, marketing, human resources and technology. He helps them better manage their fiscal responsibilities and shows them how to establish and/or upgrade financial management and decision making processes, for the overriding purpose of maximizing shareholder value.

Mike started his career at Ernst and Young in 1970. During his seven years with E&Y he worked primarily as an auditor and tax manager on the firm’s corporate accounts. From 1978 to 1996 Mike held various financial and planning executive positions, including Treasurer, Controller and Vice President of Strategic Planning at SPX Corporation, a Fortune 500 multi-national company, with sales in excess of $1 billion at the time. Other corporate positions of note include the Vice President of Planning & Development and Chief Financial Officer of American Medical Laboratories, Inc., a privately-owned provider of medical testing services, with annual revenues of $250 million. After his corporate career, Mike served as a Senior Vice President of Stern Stewart & Co, an international corporate financial advisory firm. Currently, along with his work for McGurer & Associates clients, Mike is the founding partner and senior advisor with Corporate Value Advisors, LLC, in Fairfax, Virginia.

He serves on the Board of Advisors of Corporate Improvement Partners, LLC, a Michigan-based management consulting firm specializing in the manufacturing and automotive sectors, and on the Board of Directors of DataSource, Inc.,a Maryland-based software applications development company.

Mike received his Bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration degrees from Michigan State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
